A typical travel package will include airfare, hotel and a rental car but there are plenty of other travel products that can be included as well. They may include ground transportation, meals, various types of entertainment, airport transfers, sightseeing adventures and more.

When you book vacation packages, you get one combined price rather than paying for each travel unit separately. The travel industries have gotten together and made these special arrangements in order to entice travelers into booking more than one service. It's basically a win-win situation as the travel companies get more business and the traveler gets a cheaper price for their vacation. The airlines, hotels and car rental companies will usually give you their special lowest rates in order to move their vacation inventory. Just be sure to check to see if booking separately would be cheaper. Don't just assume that a particular vacation package will be cheaper than booking separately. In some vacation packages, you have to select a higher priced hotel or an unsavory flight schedule in order to make the whole thing tie together.
